Namibia recently played host to the Capricorn Eagles Quadrangular T20 International tournament, in collaboration with Capricorn Group. The tournament, which took place from 24th April to 2nd May 2023 at the United Cricket Ground in Windhoek, saw the Namibian national side, known as the Capricorn Eagles, take on teams from Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Uganda.
While the Namibian team narrowly lost 2-4 to Uganda in the final, there were standout performances from some of the players, including three students from Kuisebmond Secondary School: Naomi Benjamin, Mezerly Gorases, and ex-learner Wilka Mwatile. These talented young women have been active members of the national team for several years, and they shone particularly brightly during the match against Uganda on 29th April 2023.
The Capricorn Eagles Quadrangular T20 International tournament was a thrilling event, with top-quality cricket on display throughout. The teams competed fiercely, with every match delivering nail-biting moments and exciting displays of skill and sportsmanship. The tournament was a fantastic showcase for cricket in Namibia, and it demonstrated the country’s growing stature in the sport.
Overall, the Capricorn Eagles can be proud of their performance in the tournament, and they will no doubt continue to work hard to build on their successes in the future. We congratulate Naomi, Mezerly, and Wilka on their outstanding contributions to the team’s efforts, and we look forward to seeing them continue to excel on the cricket field in the years to come.
