As part of Manica Group Namibia’s 100th-anniversary celebrations, learners from Kuisebmond Secondary School recently had the unique opportunity to visit the Port of Walvis Bay. This visit provided our students with valuable insights into the logistics industry and was a significant event in our journey as a ‘society of achievers.’

Insightful Port Tour Led by Industry Experts

Accompanied by their dedicated teacher, Mr. Gowaseb, our students visited Walvis Bay Stevedoring (WBS), a key part of Manica Group Namibia. This visit was one of the highlights of the anniversary advent activities organized by the company. Mr. Ian Foster, the General Manager of WBS, led the learners on an informative tour of the port. He explained the various operations that take place there, giving students a behind-the-scenes look at how goods are efficiently moved in and out of the port.

Exploring Career Opportunities in Logistics

A key aspect of the visit was learning about the diverse career opportunities within the logistics industry. Mr. Foster introduced the students to potential career paths, including stevedoring, warehousing, clearing and forwarding, freight management, ships agency, and transportation logistics. This exposure was invaluable in helping our learners understand the practical applications of their studies and in sparking interest in careers they may not have previously considered.

The Importance of Port Operations

The learners were particularly impressed by the complexity and efficiency of the port operations. The visit emphasized the vital role that the Port of Walvis Bay plays in Namibia’s economy. As one of the key hubs for sectors like shipping and warehousing, the port is crucial for facilitating trade and transportation in the region. This experience underscored the significance of logistics in global trade and opened the learners’ eyes to the broader economic impact of the industry.
